Grub started in Durban after COVID as a way for my sister and I to keep connected with our friend group over monthly dinners. But as time went on friends invited friends. Back then we were only a group of about 40 ladies, until one day a friend badgered me to start an Instagram profile.To which I replied, “It’s not like complete strangers are going to join us.” Because right up until then, everyone who had joined dinner knew someone we knew. But I caved abd started the profile anyway and the inboxes started rolling in.
The first time someone sent us a DM on Instagram I really thought we were being cat fished right up until the moment they arrived at dinner. And man, I was so glad they pitched. I couldn’t believe that there could have been a world where our paths never crossed. And it made me wonder about how many more incredible women out therewe hadn’t met yet.
Then, a year later on a random Tuesday night I posted a TikTok about one of our hangouts and went to bed. When I woke up the very next morning I realised the video had gone viral overnight – there were 500 messages in our DM's. And after we managed replying to those another 500 rolled in. Fast forward to today, we have almost 800 Grub members across Durban and Jozi.
